The third of the four majors, the oldest and possibly the most prestigious, the 146th Open Championship - The Open - is almost upon us, 20–23 July 2017.
The Inaugural Championship was played on the 17 October 1860 at Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland and was restricted to professionals only, attracting a field of eight golfers who played three rounds of Prestwick's twelve-hole course in a single day.
This year The Open returns to Royal Birkdale who will host this prestigious event for the tenth time with a field of 156 (professional and Amateurs) vying for the coveted “The Golf Champion Trophy”, more commonly referred to as the Claret Jug, played for over 4 days.Facts and figures
The favourites for this year's tournament are lead by
And the current champion Henrik Stenson, who won the 145th Open at Royal Troon last year with a record-breaking scorecard of −20.
