Most top teams in the Top 5 European leagues had a quiet weekend something blamed mainly on the long trips some had in midweek due to UEFA Champions League and Europa League fixtures. Here are some of the weekend highlights and betting options.
Premiership Feature Game: Arsenal - Manchester United, Kick-Off 1730hrs 02nd December
Saturday late kick-off at the Emirates between Arsenal and Manchester United is the major highlight of the weekend. The two teams have played a combined 50 matches where Manchester have won a total of 22 games compared to Arsenal’s 13. The Red Devils’ last visit to this Stadium saw them lose 2-0, a result Jose Mourinho will not want to repeat. Manchester United have to win if they are to keep pace with their neighbours who are threatening to run away with the title. They will approach this game at the second position if they avoid defeat when they visit Watford on Tuesday. The Red Devils have no primary injury concern after Zlatan and Rojo returned to the camp. The special one will be hoping to have Phil Jones and Eric Bailly on the team for more options in the defence. Arsenal will come to this game after hosting Huddersfield where they will be hoping to maintain the fourth position. Lacazette, a record summer signing from Lyon is the Gunners’ top scorer with six goals while Romelu Lukaku is Manchester United’s leading scorer with eight goals.
La Liga Feature Game: Athletic Bilbao – Real Madrid, Kick-Off 1945hrs 02nd December
On Saturday 02, the current La Liga and European Champions travel to Athletic Bilbao for a match that promises to have plenty of goals. Real Madrid has not performed to the levels expected this season as they sit 8 points behind Barcelona at the fourth position. The Blancos will be hoping to win this game if they are to maintain a fight to keep the La Liga title in Madrid come May 2018. Athletic Bilbao have had a disappointing season as they currently sit 15th in La Liga with 13 points. Getting a win against Madrid looks like asking too much from them, but we never know in the game of football. Real Madrid’s current top scorer is Asensio with four goals while Aritz Aduriz has bagged in five goals for Athletic Bilbao this season.
Serie A Feature Game: Napoli – Juventus, Kick-Off 1945hrs 01st December
Napoli has not won the Serie A title since 1990, but they are looking more capable this season compared to the last 26 years. They are currently unbeaten in the league and sit top of the table with 38 points, four above Juventus who are position three and whom they face on Friday 01. Juventus won 3-0 on Sunday night to keep pace with Napoli, a team that is threatening to break their seven years dominance. For betting options, the last five meetings between these two in all competitions have seen Juventus winning thrice and Napoli once but the way the league leaders are playing this season, I will not be surprised if they inflict a third league defeat to the defending champions. Paulo Dybala has scored 12 goals and made two assists for Juventus while Napoli’s Dries Mertens has scored ten goals and created a further three.
Bundesliga Feature Game: Bayer Leverkusen – Borussia Dortmund, Kick-Off 1430hrs 02nd December
Dortmund started the new season on top form which saw them go six games unbeaten, but their form has dipped in the recent weeks which have seen them drop to 5th position with 21 points, 8 points behind leaders Bayern Munich. Bayer Leverkusen is unbeaten since 24th September in all competitions and currently sit at 5th place with 20 points. Aubameyang has scored 11 goals for Dortmund while Volland has netted eight times for Leverkusen making him their top scorer. For betting options, Leverkusen last won against Dortmund in 2014 but going by recent form and home advantage, they are the favourites to win. Both teams have no primary injury concerns apart from Marco Reus.
Bundesliga Feature Game: Wolfsburg – Borussia Monchengladbach, Kick-Off 1700hrs 03rd December
Wolfsburg has had a disappointing campaign so far where they sit two positions above relegation with 14 points. Monchengladbach, on the other hand, is having a good season sitting in 4th place with 24 points just four behind leaders Bayern Munich. The last five meetings between these have seen both winning two matches and drawing one but going by the current form, Monchengladbach is likely to win.
