Premier League Match Day 34 Fixtures & Previews

The intrigue continues as there is no change at the top and hardly anything between the next four teams. Bizarrely, Mesut Ozil threw his coat at Marco Silva, but it might as well have been the towel he threw in. The Gunners’ inconsistency is costing them dearly, and it is difficult to understand how the team go from inspirational to decidedly average. Nevertheless, Maurizio Sarri and Ole Solskjaer are truly grateful and will happily take third and fourth spot off of them.

Liverpool v Chelsea – 14th April Kick off @ 1630hrs

Self important Klopp, who once described himself as famous, wants to hope he wins this game. The overindulgent celebrations at Southampton reveals how uptight Liverpool, and in particular, the manager are. Although they have home advantage on Sunday, they’ll know a win is imperative to the title race. A few weeks ago, the twenty-nine year wait was almost over, but now they are a point behind, and the nerves are showing. Famous or not, Klopp will be walking alone if Liverpool lose.

Chelsea fans will be in their element if they dash Liverpool’s hopes of lifting the cup that has eluded the Reds for so long. Sarri needs a top four finish to salvage the season, and a win on Sunday will go some way towards securing that. In Monday’s game against West Ham at the Bridge, the fans were treated to an episode of the Hazard show. Fortunately for Chelsea, Real Madrid can’t have him just yet, and until then, he will be driving fear into anyone that faces him. Virgil van Dijk has his work cut out on Sunday, but whatever he does is unlikely to stop Eden Hazard.

Crystal palace v Man City – 14th April Kick off @ 1405hrs

Selhurst Park will be a little calmer this week after the Eagles managed to beat Newcastle 1-0, and they have almost certainly secured their premiership status. The goal came by way of penalty, and there are no prizes for guessing who won it. Wilfred Zaha is a truly gifted player but looking for penalties all of the time isn’t in the spirit of the game. However, even by adopting that philosophy, Palace will need a lot more than falling over in the box to pull off a win against City on Friday.

Manchester City may benefit from a Pep talk on Friday morning to remind the players that Crystal Palace are dangerous on the ball. Notwithstanding the fragility of Zaha in the box, Roy Hodgson’s boys are more than capable of repelling City. Until Liverpool slip up, City can’t afford to go to London or any other fixture and take the win for granted. The quadruple is a real possibility, and along with the fans, Guardiola will go absolutely ballistic if they lose through a lack of focus. Glory awaits.

Burnley v Cardiff – 13th April Kick Off @ 1500hrs

Safety is within touching distance at Turf Moor. Burnley have two good wins over Wolves and Bournemouth in the bag and are nicely poised on 36 points in the table. Sean Dyche must be happy to be in fourteenth place after such an awful start to the season. However, Dyche would say himself that there is no time to rest on their laurels. Burnley simply have to push on and win Saturday’s crucial game because if they fail, they are straight back in the relegation mire.

Hoping to avoid relegation, luckless Cardiff will undoubtedly arrive with all guns blazing. They have absolutely nothing to lose now, which makes them incredibly dangerous for Burnley. After the game at the Etihad on Wednesday, Neil Warnock said he was proud of his team, and he had good reason to be. The Blue Birds have a decent team sheet, with great individual players like Junior Hoilett on the wing and Harry Arter in midfield. They won’t go down without a fight.

Man United v West Ham – 13th April Kick Off @ 1730hrs

Now that Ole Solskjaer has the big chair on a permanent basis, he will be earning every penny of his 7 million pound salary. Just written down, his wages sound vulgar, but that is the price for your average numbskull footballer these days. Pogba is a good example of what’s wrong at United at the moment; he is demanding £500,000 per week – it says it all. The seven million man is probably not that bothered about West Ham, which would be a bigger mistake than pandering to the overpaid babies he has playing for him.

Manuel Pellegrini will be hoping to catch United on the hop, and pull off a smash and grab job. The loss at Stamford Bridge on Monday will be the faintest of memories for the Hammers, and they will be hell-bent on a win at Old Trafford on Saturday. West Ham will be allowed to play freely as there isn’t a lot for them to play for now, apart from personal pride. If they play like they can, the Hammers could deliver a mighty blow to the Devils’ fourth spot hopes.
