Premier League Match Day 33 Fixtures & Previews

Liverpool got away with it again thanks to a last minute own goal courtesy of Tottenham’s defence, and Klopp looked like he was firing a missile out of his backside in celebration. Arsenal’s win over Newcastle on Monday night takes third spot from Spurs, and Chelsea only just scrape through a tough game at Cardiff. Neil Warnock is under an FA investigation after staring at the referee at the end of the game – make of that what you will. The really surprising thing about this is that Warnock didn’t burst into flames after the shocking refereeing that cost him the match.

Chelsea v Brighton – 3rd April Kick off @ 1945hrs

Sarri must be thanking his lucky stars after his tactical stubbornness almost saw Cardiff pull off a fabulous win. What on earth is going on at Chelsea? They obviously didn’t learn anything from the Everton game at all. However, Neil Warnock did and has exposed the formation flaws that exist at the Bridge. The Blues’ fans will be hoping for change, and not just in the way Chelsea play.

Chris Houghton is battling to save his job at Brighton, but the truth is, he isn’t really doing anything wrong. The Seagulls are punching well and truly above their weight, and now it is starting to show. Nevertheless, they have a great opportunity to see off Chelsea on Wednesday, especially if they follow the tactics that Cardiff employed. You can almost guarantee how Chelsea will play.

Southampton v Liverpool – 5th April Kick off @ 2000hrs

Happy chap Ralph Hasenhuttl can be proud of his work at Southampton with 2 wins in 2. His team has given themselves every chance of avoiding relegation. However, Friday evening’s game against Liverpool won’t be easy, and it will require nothing short of a miracle for them to win. Their only hope is if Klopp’s men turn up thinking that it’s going to be a walkover, which can happen. Saints’ fans will undoubtedly be in full voice on Friday and hoping to spoil the Scousers’ party.

After the relief of beating Tottenham at home on Sunday, Liverpool will be heading down to St Mary’s full of self confidence, and rightly so. However, you can’t help noticing how jittery the manager and players are. It’s the biggest moment in the club’s history, and the demands of the Liverpool fans and shareholders is taking its toll. Despite the denials of Klopp, they are most definitely under the cosh, and a game against the youthful exuberance at Southampton isn’t exactly going to help them.

Newcastle v Crystal Palace – 6th April Kick Off @ 1700hrs

Although Newcastle let Arsenal win on Monday, the Magpies are just about clear of the relegation zone in 14th place on 35 points. Bernitez has done a sterling job this season under difficult circumstances but it isn’t over yet, and they have a very difficult game on Saturday against Palace, which should see them safe for another season if they win. If Solomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez play as well as they can, Palace will come undone.

Crystal Palace haven’t had the season they were expecting, and they are in a similar position to Newcastle. Last time out against Huddersfield, Roy Hogdeson’s men won the day, but it wasn’t easy for them at all. Needless to say, the silky skills of Wilfred Zaha were on show and made the difference they needed to win the day. However, if they don’t want to be dragged back into a relegation fight, and want to hold onto their slightly vulnerable 13th place in the table, they will have to work hard.

Everton v Arsenal – 7th April Kick Off @ 1605hrs

Mid-table Everton are exactly where they always are and don’t look like achieving anything more than that. Sunday’s game against Arsenal provides Marco Silva the perfect opportunity to prove that his football philosophy actually works. However, it won’t take long for the Goodison crowd to become restless and voice their disapproval. You can’t really blame the sour Toffees because they have been promised greatness, but what they have so far is mediocrity. This game should be worth a watch though.

The understated Unai Emery has done it again and caught everyone napping. Suddenly, Arsenal are in third spot, and nobody knows how they did it. The Gunners have won five and drawn one of the last six games, and Mesut Ozil is back in vogue. News that one of England’s best forwards, Danny Welbeck, is to be offered a new contract, came out of the blue, and as a bit of a surprise too, because most fans had totally forgotten that he was even on the team. They had better hope that Everton don’t spring a few surprises on Sunday
