The leading football leagues in Europe are beginning and we will take a closer look at the feature matches to be played in the weekend, and some betting options for these games. This cannot go without looking at the tantalising and much-anticipated derby between Chelsea and Arsenal at the Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea v Arsenal, Kick-Off 1730hrs 18th August
Chelsea won their opening match in the 2018/19 season and will be looking to do more damage to the already wounded Arsenal. Eden Hazard came from the bench to give an excellent performance last weekend and may be selected instead of Willian. Arsenal, on the other hand, will lack the services of Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Sead Kolasinac and Nacho Monreal who is not fit. Stephan Lichtsteiner will have his full debut at left-back, while Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Torreira are expected to replace Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Granit Xhaka.
This North London Derby is expected to be fiery with Unai Emery hoping that his side will be more defensively disciplined than in their last game against City last week. The betting options for this game would be over two goals and both teams to score.
Valencia - Atletico Madrid, Kick-Off 1900hrs 20th August
All attention will be on Valencia and Atletico Madrid as they play their opening game of the season. Atletico Madrid was very keen to reinforce their squad in the transfer window. The likes of Kalinic, Lemar, Martins, and Arias came in the transfer and are expected to make their Atletico Madrid debut in this game. On the other hand, Los Che impressed last season, and they aim to put more effort this term. Valencia is always tough at home, and their attack has been reinforced with Batshuayi joining the club. The hosts are expected to grab a point from this game and score at least one goal.
SS Lazio - Napoli, Kick-Off 1930hrs 18th August
Lazio will take on Napoli in the opening game of the season in Serie A. The Biancocelesti will represent Italy in the Europa League, and the Lazio chiefs were keen to hold midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who will be Lazio’s main threat against Napoli. The Neapolitans have been determined to end Juventus’ dominance in the league but with Cristiano Ronaldo joining the champions means that it is easier said than done. Nevertheless, Napoli will use their attacking style against Lazio, and both sides are expected to score at Stadio Olimpico.
German Bundesliga I
Bundesliga fans will have to wait for another one week to see their favourite clubs in action. Although there will be many entertaining matches on the opening weekend, the game between Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim will not go unnoticed. Everybody will be keen to see how the German powerhouse will perform in their opening game.
Reims - Lyon, Kick-Off 1945hrs 17th August
Reims will take on Lyon in the second week in Ligue 1. Reims started their season by beating Nice on the road but will need to do more than that this season. The newcomers face a tough task in their first home match as they host Lyon. Les Gones secured a routine 2-0 win against Amiens in their first match, with Traore and Depay scoring. As Lyon looks to end PSG’s dominance in the French league, coach Bruno Genesio will be counting on his players to win Friday’s clash. The betting options for this game would be an away win for the visitors. Furthermore, when the two teams last met two years ago, Lyon was thrashed 4-1, and they will be hungry for revenge.
