Premier League Match Day 30 Fixtures & Previews

Whilst two teams battle it out at the top for title bragging rights, the real race is for third spot, with four of the biggest teams in the league toughing it out and just a couple of points separating them. None of them are really in the driving seat, and they’re certainly not helping themselves after fairly disappointing performances all round. The biggest losers were Tottenham, much to the delight of Chelsea fans.

Crystal Palace v Brighton – Sat 9th March Kick off @ 1230hrs

Palace have really turned around their season and managed to get their act together. Wilfried Zaha has bags of talent, and apart from the persistent whinging, he is a master on the field. As Roy Hodgson’s star man, Zaha is leading the way for the other forwards to follow, but they need to hurry up and find some form because without Zaha, Andros Townsend is the only other player that seems to be reaching his potential for them.

Chris Houghton can count his team as being a bit jammy with a narrow win over Huddersfield last Saturday. Brighton weren't exactly playing great football and looked as though they were just trying to get through it. Something has changed down at the Amex because the beginning of the season for the Seagulls was vastly different. After the game, Houghton said he was relieved, which is understandable given as they haven’t won a game in 2019. However, it isn’t the positivity the fans hoped for.

Chelsea v Wolves – Sun 10th March Kick off @ 1615hrs

A full house at Craven Cottage on Sunday were in full voice, and were treated to a very exciting game indeed. Although Fulham handed the reins over to Scott Parker after saying goodbye to Ranieri, Chelsea had to work extremely hard to get the win. Sarri is walking the managerial high wire at the moment, and he will be thanking his lucky stars that he played Kepa. The young Spanish keeper made a series of terrific saves to prevent what would have been an embarrassing loss. Chelsea are going to have to have their wits about them at the Bridge on Sunday because you can’t trust the Wolves to roll over.

Nuno Espirito Santo will be expecting his team to bounce back in style after a surprise loss at Huddersfield and a fairly subdued affair at home against Cardiff, even though they won. More importantly, everyone has become used to really impressive football from Wolves, and so the downturn was a little unexpected. It’s entirely possible that squad rotation has upset the flow a bit, but Chelsea will be expecting them to be on song and will prepare accordingly. The FA Cup quarter final against Manchester United must be on the players minds, and might be the thing that undoes them at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal v Man United – Sun 10th March Kick Off @ 1630hrs

Arsenal are where they usually are – floating just below third place – and so the question has to be asked: what is new at Arsenal? Unai Emery was nominated for manager of the month in February, which means average must be the criteria. The Gunners had the perfect opportunity to announce their premiership intentions against Spurs at Wembley, but missed by a long chalk – in fact, miss is exactly what Aubameyang did. Golden opportunities don’t come along too often, and Arsenal’s ship seems to have not only sailed but is sinking rapidly.

Everything is wonderful at Manchester United apart from the dressing-room bust-up between Pogba and Lukaku, which was later denied. Either way, superstar ego is ultimately going to undermine Solskjaer’s great work so far. If they do manage to get their big heads into the Emirates on Sunday, they can expect to work hard to win. The Gunners aren’t sunk just yet and could easily take Man U down with them. This match is probably going to decide whether the overconfidence of the players helps Arsenal.

Man City v Watford – Sat 9th March Kick Off @ 1730hrs

Pep Guardiola has the Manchester City team looking like the thoroughbreds they are, but is it enough to see off the opposition? As the season reaches the final furlong of the title race, are the runners beginning to tire? The importance of tiny details are going to be the difference between the winners and runners-up. Last time City played Watford they won 2-1, but it was far from a convincing win. Unlike Klopp, the winds do seem to be favouring Pep, and at home to Watford should be nothing other than an emphatic win.

Watford’s captain Troy Deeney will be leading the charge at the Etihad on Saturday. You may not like the bullish style of his captaincy, but it is very effective, and you just can’t criticise his commitment. Andre Gray’s winner against Leicester deprived Brendan Rodgers of a first match win and Rodgers’ vacant expression after the game said it all. The spirit in the Hornets is undeniable, and they are in the hunt for their highest ever premiership finish. The Blues had better ready themselves for a stampede.
