Premier League Match Day 36 Fixtures & Previews

The end of season run in to the Premier League has never been so tight, and it’s promising to deliver a cracking last day thriller. The real winners of course are the fans as we have been treated to some truly magnificent football with highs and lows. Nevertheless, it isn’t over yet as the theatre opens again on Friday, and Liverpool take on Huddersfield in the first act of Match day 36.

Fulham v Cardiff – Saturday 27th April Kick off @ 1500hrs

Scott Parker didn’t really have a realistic chance of keeping Fulham up, and sadly he doesn’t really have a chance at the managers job either. However, he should be commended for his commitment and dedication throughout Fulham’s demise. The Parker effect has managed to lift the players’ spirits enough to prevent them giving up, and it also provides a style and discipline that works.

Cardiff’s bid to stay up isn’t dead yet, and they will hope that Brighton fall to bits against Newcastle, but first, they have to get past a resurgent Fulham. After a valiant effort against Liverpool, you have to think that Neil Warnock’s team are more than capable of beating the Lilywhites, but it has to be nothing less than a win. This is a pivotal game for the Bluebirds, and they know it. If they do manage to keep their nerve, a miracle might just happen.

Man Utd v Chelsea – Sunday 28th April Kick off @ 1630hrs

The messiah has seemingly failed in his bid to resurrect Man United, and instead, Solskjaer has instigated their downfall by believing in the players. After the game, Ole said “it wasn’t good enough.” Oh really. Well, they have until Sunday to workout what is good enough. Making a bit of an effort might be nice. Manchester United fans will be numb at the moment because it was all going so well, but now it’s fading away as the cold reality of their predicament hits home.

Chelsea’s saviour has been bobbing and weaving all season, and has somehow got away with it. Poised to consolidate fourth spot, Sarri’s men will need a solid performance on Sunday, but solid isn’t something Chelsea do. If the fans felt that there was a cunning manager with some decent tactics up his sleeve, they might be able to relax. However, the current stratagem employed at the Bridge may well lead to unemployment unless they win.

Burnley v Man City – Sunday 28th April Kick Off @ 1405hrs

You have to hand it to Sean Dyche and his men because they just don’t follow the media’s script, and in doing so, they have survived another season despite the odds against it. A lot could be learned by observing Burnley’s grit and dogged determination during a match, and it is a great advert for English football. Stylish football is worthless unless you win. Just ask Pochettino.

Almost over the line with the big games out of the way, or are they? Burnley are no mugs, and if you think the title is all over, think again. Surely Pep’s guard will be up? City need to win, and that’s the problem on Sunday. Dancing round defences is easy if you are given the room to do it. However, the Clarets are unlikely to leave any space at all, which means goals might be hard to come by. Surely Pep knows this?

Watford v Wolves – Sat 27th April Kick Off @ 1700hrs

Eighth position Watford are in the hunt for seventh, which is currently occupied by Wolves. Drawing with Southampton last time out has cost them dearly and invariably let Wolves back into the fray. Still without Deeney, the elbow specialist, Garcia will have to rely on Deulofeu for creative play – if he can be bothered – and a temperamental front line. If they don’t make it on Saturday, they only have themselves to blame.

Wolves seem to be back on song after an impressive win over Arsenal on Wednesday. If Nuno can keep his cool on Saturday, they have a great chance of nicking 7th place off the Hornets. However, like most things, nothing is certain, and Watford have home advantage. The Wolves must be a little tired after running themselves ragged against the Gunners too. Out of all of the games, this one is the most difficult to call.
