This round of matches between the 3rd and 5th of November throws up a number of intriguing games. Tottenham will be looking to find some form against the Premiership's surprise package, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Huddersfield v Fulham already has the air of a relegation six-pointer. But with Man City and Chelsea having what should be straightforward home ties, the most heavyweight clash at the top of the table is Liverpool v Arsenal.
This top of the table encounter is steeped in Premiership history. These two sides have faced each other 184 times in the league, and are pretty evenly matched, with the Anfield club just shading the head to head stats with 69 wins to the Gunners' 64. They've also played out 51 draws. Liverpool just missed doing the double over their rivals last season. Thumped 4-0 on Merseyside, Arsene Wenger's side fought back in a thrilling 3-3 encounter at the Emirates. But the North Londoners progression under Unai Emery this season has been remarkable, more organised and cohesive, they appear to have tightened up the defensive frailties which have characterised Arsenal sides of recent seasons, and a cracking start to the season has seen them well-placed in after a few seasons of underachievement. A draw against Palace ended a run of seven consecutive victories in all competitions, and new signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the league's top scorer.
But could this, finally, be Liverpool's season? The only side that could tame the Man City juggernaut last season, they've carried on where they left off last year, and are duking it out with City at the top of the table. The signing of keeper Allison has shored up one of the glaring holes in their line-up, Van Dijk is arguably the league's form defender and the Reds are now a formidable outfit from front to back. the goal-scoring isn't just left to Mo Salah, with Sadio Mane topping their scoring charts.
Two of the most attractive sides in the division meet in what promises to be a mouthwatering feast of football. Wolves have disproven the accepted wisdom about newly promoted sides, and under the leadership of manager Nuno Espirito Santo sit comfortably in mid-table, with their attractive possession style drawing many plaudits, no pushovers at home, they've lost only once at Molyneux this season. Conversely, Tottenham feel as if they've underperformed, despite this being their best start statistically to a Premier League season. Pochettino's side will be looking for a good performance to keep them in the mix at the top, and a return to form for top striker Harry Kane, still their leading scorer with 5 despite being nowhere near his best this season would go a long way to making that happen.
While it's early in the season to say any team looks doomed, these two are certainly struggling down in the bottom three. Defensively leaky Fulham have the joint worst goal difference in the league (with Huddersfield), and although they came up playing a brand of football which won them plenty of applause they've yet to adapt to the demands of the premiership. Packed with talent, they've no problem scoring, Aleksandr Mitrovic and Andre Schurrle have nine in the league between them already, and the sublime midfield talents of Jean Michael Seri and Ryan Sessegnon mean they're always a pleasure to watch, but they've shipped twenty-eight at the back in a mere ten games. Maybe winless Huddersfield are the perfect opponents for them, having only scored four times all season. David Wagner's side's survival was one of the stories of last season, but they're finding life much tougher at the second time of asking.
