The Gallagher Premiership Round 3 will see a total of 6 games played between 14-16 September 2018. Wasps and Leicester Tigers, who play each other on Sunday is the match to look out for. Friday will see Gloucester battle it out with local rivals Bristol. Saturday will see a total of four games being played.
Wasps and Leicester Tigers have always been perennial rivals over the years and this match promises to be a real cracker. Their rivalry goes back to the 1980s when the league format of the rugby union was formed. Leicester won the inaugural title, while Wasps won it the following year. Leicester have gone on to win it ten times, while Wasps have won it 6 times.
Since 1981, the two rivals have met 61 times, with Leicester winning on 37 occasions, while the wasps have won it on 23 occasions. Their only draw was in 2004. These two teams are a group of four who have never been relegated from the rugby union top tier.
In the opening two rounds, both teams have won and lost a game. Wasps won their opening game against Worcester Warriors, but lost to Exeter Chiefs, the reigning champions. Leicester lost their first game to Exeter Chiefs but bounced back to defeat Newcastle Falcons in the second round of their fixture. The last meeting between these two teams was in March, with Leicester emerging victorious on that occasion.
One of the players to watch out for is Wasps All-Blacks new acquisition Lima Sopoaga. They will also be depending on the skilled English fullback Daly who scored an impressive opening try in their first game. Leicester can call on Manu Tuilagi, their talented center who is returning to his best after a two year laden injury period.
The last time Exeter tasted defeat in their season fixtures was their visit to Wasps on 18 February. Exeter Chiefs have begun this season with victories over Leicester and Wasps. However, they have never won three consecutive opening games. Sale Sharks, on the other hand, had suffered four consecutive losses before their victory against Worcester in the second round. Exeter Chiefs are top of the table, while Sale Sharks occupy the 9th spot.
The last time the two teams met was on April 28th, 2018, with Exeter thrashing Sale Sharks 34-19. Both teams have met on 16 occasions, with Exeter Chiefs winning 12 of those duels, while Sale Sharks have won 4, with no draws between them. The last time that Sale Sharks won at Sandy Park was in April 2014.
Bath Rugby have yet to register any victory in the opening two rounds, drawing one and losing one. Harlequins, on the other hand, have lost one and won one. Harlequins stands at 4th in the table, while Bath Rugby is 10th in the standings. Harlequins have however only registered two victories at home this year, with one of those games against Bath in March, and the other against Sale on the opening round of the season.
In their previous five meetings between these two sides, the home team has always emerged the winner, with the only victory for Bath at Twickenham Stoop being in May 2015. Both teams have met a total of 16 times, with Quins winning on 8 occasions, Bath on 7 occasions and just one draw.
