Premier League Match Day 26 Fixtures & Previews

At least one thing is guaranteed this week – Manchester City’s last season record tally of points in the league will remain a record for now. However, it is fair to say, that this season is proving altogether more competitive, and the – allegedly – smaller teams are causing real upsets. So no wonder it is so tight at the top. Clear evidence of this was shown on match day 24 and 25, where a mixed bag of fortunes unfolded, particularly for Chelsea and Bournemouth.

Manchester City v Chelsea – Sunday Kick off @ 1600hrs

Manchester City’s confidence will be high before they face Chelsea because of the way they destroyed Arsenal last weekend. Their talisman Kun Aguero, a hat trick hero in their last game is back from injury and looks rejuvenated. Unbelievably, Aguero could easily surpass Alan Shearer’s hat trick record in the premier league. De Bruyne is back into the first team too, and the combination of Aguero and Sterling makes City look unstoppable.

Chelsea blotted out their recent nightmare against Bournemouth by putting 5 goals past Huddersfield town last weekend. Maurizio Sari will hope that the newly formed partnership between Higuain and Hazard will yield some much needed goals. Jorginho might be an injury scare after he limped off of the pitch in their last game, which may mean that Kante has to sit deeper into the midfield. Chelsea beat City 2-0 at Stamford Bridge last time they met, and are probably in the mood to repeat it.

Liverpool v Bournemouth – Saturday Kick Off @ 1500hrs

Liverpool were running away at the top of the league and were looking forward to lifting the cup. However, West Ham hadn’t read that particular script. The return of James Milner and Oxlade-Chamberlain from suspension and injury respectively should please the fans. However, the smile has definitely fallen off of the face of Klopp after missing two opportunities to increase the gap at the top. Van Dijk has been outstanding throughout the season, making him arguably the best defender in the league, and they are going to need him. The game against Bournemouth will be a tough fixture

Bournemouth are known to be one of the unpredictable teams in the top-flight, but they are also known for playing fast flowing football that could upset Liverpool. Joshua King and Callum Wilson will probably lead the charge due to the absence of David Brooks, who limped off after a fantastic showing against Chelsea. According to Bournemouth’s local rag the Daily Echo, Eddie Howe is either a tactical genius or just plain lucky. Four hundred games in charge speaks for itself, and so Liverpool needn’t think it’s going to be a cake walk.

Watford v Everton – Saturday Kick Off @ 1500hrs

Watford have only managed to score 1 goal in their last two outings. Worryingly, there doesn’t seem to be a good reason for the drop in form. The last game against Brighton ended in a goalless draw, thankfully the Watford fans didn’t have to go far to get home that day. Ben Foster pulled off some fine saves during the game to keep a clean sheet at the Amex stadium. Quite why it isn’t happening for players like Deulofeu in midfield and Gray in attack is difficult to fathom. Head coach Garcia is probably wondering the same thing.

Everton are definitely under the cosh now after a run of very poor results. Although Marco Silva has confidence in his current squad, the fans must find it hard to swallow. Explaining why Everton weren’t out in the market for any reinforcement would go a long way towards pacifying the restless crowd. The Toffees are seeking real redemption after they lost to Wolves and Man City at Goodison Park. Everton are clinging to 9th place in the table, and they simply have to win at Watford.
