English Premiership League Fixtures For The Weekend 20-22 January, Matchday 24
It's well over halfway through the season now, 15 games remain to see who stays up, who goes down and who tops the table. Current leaders are Manchester City, well clear of the chasing pack who all hope they can do something this weekend to put pressure on the leaders.
Burnley v Manchester United Saturday 20th January - kick off @ 1500hrs
Burnley haven't had the greatest run over the festive period with only 2 points from their last 5 games. With only 19 league goals to their name, Burnley will need Kiwi striker Chris Wood to improve on his tally of 5 if they are to have any chance of taking all 3 points from Manchester United this Saturday. In contrast to their poor scoring record, defensively Burnley are having an excellent season. With only 20 goals conceded so far, only 3 teams have a better record at the back. Two of these goals were conceded on Boxing Day last year when, leading 2-0 at Old Trafford, Burnley looked to be on course for the win until Jesse Lingard's late strike saw United snatch a point. This time United manager Jose Mourinho will be looking for his team go one better and take all 3 points. Striker Romelu Lukaku has scored 16 times for United since joining them from Everton last July and will be hoping to add to his haul this Saturday. At the back, United will still be without Eric Bailly as he continues to recover from ankle surgery. Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are looking good in Bailly's absence and will be trying to stop Burnley improving their woeful scoring record.
Arsenal v Crystal Palace - Saturday 20th January - kick off @ 1500hrs
The visit of Crystal Palace is a chance for Arsene Wenger to give himself some breathing space following an early exit from the FA Cup and poor league form. With striker Alexis Sanchez on his way out, Arsenal need a goalscorer who can get them some much-needed points. Currently 6th in the league and 8 points off the top four, they need to rapidly improve if they want to be back in the Champions League next season. Opponents Crystal Palace will be hoping Alexis Sanchez does not feature in Saturday's game after he scored two goals against them in the 2-3 home defeat at the end of December. Palace will be looking for a result here as they are currently only 5 points above the relegation zone thanks to their terrible start to the season. Top scorer Bakary Sako scored last time out in the 1-0 win over Burnley and will need to be on form to help Palace continue their resurgence in the league.
Southampton v Tottenham Hotspur - Sunday 21st January - kick off @ 1600hrs
Sunday's only game sees 5th placed Spurs travelling to Southampton, with The Lilywhites hoping to continue their good run in the league. Harry Kane is the golden boy of the Premier League this season, scoring more than the whole Southampton team put together. Tottenham will be hoping that his good form continues as they look to close the gap on fourth-placed Liverpool. Southampton are just a point above the bottom three and without a league win since last November so will be desperate for a win this weekend. Manager Mauricio Pellegrino has been at Southampton for 7 months now and will be looking for big improvements in his side if they are to beat Spurs. He is hopeful to add Arsenal forward Theo Walcott to his side to help keep Southampton in the Premiership and any points that can be gained this weekend will certainly help Southampton's bid for survival.
