With the 2017/18 English Premiership football season rapidly reaching its conclusion, teams will be desperate to pick up vital points in their pursuit of silverware, or to help safeguard their Premiership status. Some interesting games are taking place this weekend that could ultimately determine these outcomes.
Tottenham Hotspur enjoy home advantage for this mouth watering clash and will be keen to continue their recent run of good form. Unbeaten in the league since December (when they were comprehensively beaten by today's visitors), they have since registered nine wins and three draws, almost certainly guaranteeing them a Champions League place for next season. The runners-up place is still up for grabs though and Spurs will relish the opportunity to bag three points against the champions elect. Prolific England striker Harry Kane has recovered from his recent ankle injury and will be hoping to add to his goal tally for the season (24 so far in the Premiership).
Manchester City may need to pick themselves up mentally after the disappointment of failing to clinch the title in the Manchester derby last week. They should go into this match with a great deal of confidence, having beaten the North London team 4-1 earlier in the season. However, Spurs are in great form right now and City have had the distraction of their Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool to contend with. Top scorer Sergio Aguero has been struggling with injury recently but they will be hoping he will be fully fit for this game. If not, they will look to Raheem Sterling or Gabriel Jesus to fire them home, with Kevin De Bruyne providing the opportunities from midfield, as he has done all season.
After some poor results earlier in the season, Newcastle United can be very happy with their recent form and current position in the Premiership table. Captain Jamaal Lascelles has received many plaudits this season and has epitomised the team's improvement in fortunes. Newcastle will be hoping that Jonjo Shelvey is fully fit for this clash as he provides the necessary creativity that has been so important.
Arsenal fans will not be happy with their team's showing in the league as it looks like they will miss out on a top four place for the second season running. In December they recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Newcastle but their hosts have since climbed the table and will now be tougher opposition. They will also have to manage without Henrikh Mkhitaryan who will miss the game due to a knee injury.
There is no doubt that West Ham have had a difficult season, but they have seen an upturn in fortunes the past few weeks and are now in good position to retain their Premiership status. Marko Arnautovic is top scorer for the season and will be keen to score against his former club while Javier Hernandez will be hoping to be promoted from the bench for this vital game.
Stoke City's relegation worries are intensifying and, without a win since January, they will be desperate to pick up points at the London Stadium. Goalkeeper Jack Butland will need to be on top form to keep out a somewhat rejuvenated West Ham, whilst the forwards need to take their chances when they come, which they have failed to do recently.
