Premier League Match Day 28 Fixtures & Previews

The Premier League tightened up this week with only one point in it now. The race for the title is most certainly on. Liverpool were cock-sure of themselves but not any more, and Jurgen klopp’s facial contortion at Old Trafford on Sunday told the story. Man City on the other hand, are looking like a proper unit, and managed to keep their nerve to beat Chelsea in the Carabao sponsored English Football League Cup at Wembley by the narrowest of margins.

Man City v West Ham – Wed 27th Feb Kick off @ 2000hrs

Manchester City have begun their march toward winning four trophies this season with one down and three to go. Who can stop them? Pep Guardiola has worked his magic once more since the defeat at the hands of Newcastle. Nobody could have predicted that. The team are evidently enjoying his brand of leadership and style of playing. More importantly, so are the fans.

West Ham fans are probably happy with their team’s ninth position in the table, especially after a disastrous start to the season. The win over Fulham on Friday evening would have boosted their confidence. However, Fulham’s Ryan Babel could have easily scored in the first 5 minutes and potentially changed the whole momentum of the game. They are going to need a bit more than luck at the Etihad.

Chelsea v Spurs – Wed 27th Feb Kick off @ 2000hrs

Maurizio Sarri could well be joining Claude Puel down the job centre, but you have to feel a little sympathetic towards his situation. A really solid display from Chelsea on Sunday against man City was only marred by Kepa refusing to be substituted at the end. Although the incident was later explained as a misunderstanding, at the time, Sarri looked like he had blown a fuse. Chelsea will be desperate to repay Spurs for the defeat last time they met. History between the two clubs runs deep, and it’s time for Chelsea to step up.

Tottenham Hotspur really lost the plot at Turf Moor on Saturday where Burnley showed them up by beating them 2 – 1. Mauricio Pochettino was literally foaming at the mouth after the game as he stood over the referee demanding an explanation for some of the decisions. Much like Jurgen Klopp, Pochettino needs to wind his neck in, and respect the decisions of the ref. The Stamford Bridge faithful will be happy to see them put down.

Newcastle v Burnley – Tues 26th Kick Off @ 2000hrs

Newcastle United are finally starting to look like a premiership team, and new signing Miguel Almiron has all the hallmarks of a star in the making. The 2-0 win over Huddersfield was a hard fought affair but it was a lively and entertaining game. The Toon Army will be awash with excitement, especially over the partnership of the three front men: Almiron, Perez, and Rondon.

Burnley fans are probably feeling relieved to have got the Tottenham game out of the way, but must be over the moon about the unexpected win. The Clarets’ manager Sean Dyche has worked wonders at Burnley with a limited budget, and the players grit and determination is a direct reflection of the manager’s philosophy. Deservedly moving away from the bottom of the table, Burnley will be keen for Chris Wood to be on song if they are to continue their unbeaten run, and win at St James’ Park.

Liverpool v Watford – Wed 27th Kick Off @ 2000hrs

Liverpool looked a bit wobbly at Old Trafford on Sunday, and their star man Salah was nullified by Manchester United’s Luke Shaw, who was man of the match. A game plagued with injury was further influenced by Jurgen Klopp’s nervous disposition in the technical area. Jordan Henderson was substituted in the second half, and as he left the field, exchanged words with Klopp, which in all probability weren’t kind. The pressure is definitely mounting, and they simply must beat Watford on home turf.

An inspired Watford put 5 past Cardiff on Friday evening in an emphatic win away from home. Gerard Deulofeu scored a hat-trick in that game, and if he turns up at Anfield with the same intention on Wednesday, we are in for a real treat. Now up to 7th in the table, the Hornets are buzzing and could easily stun the Kop into silence. The ambition and desire at Watford has never been more evident, and they are in the mood to spoil Liverpool’s party.
