Premier League Match Day 35 Fixtures & Previews

Something just as big as Jurgen’s head is Manchester City’s game against Spurs. The majority of pundits have billed this match as the title decider, and they could be right. The end of season run-in is underway, and the nerves are clearly on edge at the top and bottom of the table. It looks like Cardiff need a miracle to save them from relegation and Arsenal need a remedy for inconsistency. Nevertheless, it will be a thrilling weekend of football.

Man City v Spurs – Saturday 9th April Kick off @ 1230hrs

Yesterday, all Pep’s troubles seemed so far away, but now it looks as if VAR is here to stay. Bombing out of the Champions League in the way they did will hurt Man City’s pride a lot, and revenge will be the theme on Saturday as they take on Tottenham again. After Wednesday’s game, Guardiola was magnanimous in defeat and told the press that it was an extremely cruel way to go out of the competition. It is safe to say, the intensity at the Etihad will be off the scale for this encounter.

Cruel or not, Maurico Pochettino wasted no time expressing his delight after Wednesday’s win over City. However, it looked more like an immense weight had been lifted off Tottenham’s shoulders. Are Spurs and Pochettino finally going to deliver the promise of silverware, and more importantly, the success that White Heart Lane have been craving for so long? In spite of the win over City, the majority of pundits are saying that Spurs will fall apart when it counts, and history does somewhat support that theory.

Everton v Man Utd – Sunday 21st April Kick off @ 1330hrs

A two nil defeat at Fulham wasn’t what anybody thought would happen on a rather dreary match at Craven Cottage. Everton can’t afford to go to sleep on Sunday against Man Utd in the same way because they will most certainly be punished. Marco Silva will have to pull a rabbit out of the tactical hat, and moreover, breathe some life into his players quickly. The fans won’t be happy to see their team reading holiday brochures, and getting ready for the off. You can guarantee the air will be blue if the team decide to go on holiday.

After a tough game at the Nou Camp where Messi taught United a valuable lesson, Ole Solshjaer is starting to understand what it means to be a real manager. Baby faces and nice smiles isn’t going to cut the mustard at Old Trafford. He and the team need to get a grip on their knickers, and produce a performance worthy of the shirt. Nearly goals don’t count, and it doesn’t matter how much the players are worth as long as they score. The American owners must have been confident that they had solved the issues at United, but it looks like that particular dream is over.

Arsenal v Crystal Palace – 21st April Kick Off @ 1700hrs

Unai Emery must be as pleased as punch to get through the game at Watford with a win, but the squad is far from stable. The Gunners are busy choosing their player of the season, which is surely an impossible choice as none of them deserve the title. Historically, Arsenal have always had outstanding players who invariably make memorable seasons. At the moment, Arsenal’s team sheet is thoroughly characterless, and there’s no evidence on the pitch to suggest otherwise. Sunday’s game against Palace will demand real character if they are going to win.

Roy Hodgson may be in his in seventies now, but don’t doubt his commitment to win for a second. Roy will be eyeing up a potential win at the Emirates this Sunday, and Palace have got every chance of doing just that. The Eagles are comparatively safe this season with 39 points in the bank, and so a last charge to avoid relegation won’t be necessary. This is not good news for Arsenal as Palace can go to the Emirates and play the fast-flowing attacking football they’re known for. One thing is for sure – there will be goals.

Cardiff v Liverpool – Sunday 21st April Kick Off @ 1605hrs

Neil Warnock’s gloom was lifted slightly with a good win over struggling Brighton on Tuesday, which keeps Cardiff’s hopes of avoiding relegation alive. Although it is only the faintest of chances of staying up, nobody would want to deny this tiny moment after the year they have had. However, they have a mountain to climb, and the next game against Kloppies heros would seem like an insurmountable challenge for any team at the moment. Nevertheless, expect nothing less than a hundred percent from the Bluebirds, and if the unimaginable happens, they’ll deserve a standing ovation.

Fresh from a win over Porto in the Champions League, confidence will be sky high, and egos even higher. Liverpool – in their own opinion – are title winners already, and on the surface of things, it looks increasingly likely. However, despite the clownish celebratory behaviour of the manager, his team do seem susceptible to panic attacks when they are under threat, and some believe it is their Achilles heel. Overconfidence has been an integral part of Liverpool’s downfall before, and this might just give Cardiff the incentive they need.
