Premier League Match Day 27 Fixtures & Previews

The English Premier League is hotting up, and match day 27 could be pivotal to the final outcome. Jurgen Klopp appeared to blame everyone else for Liverpool’s poor performance against West Ham. However, it is evident that the pressure and his inflated ego got the better of him. An FA sanction should help him remember that the referee isn’t the problem.

Man United v Liverpool – Sun 24th Kick off @ 1405hrs

The man of the moment, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has a golden opportunity to derail Jurgen Klopp’s master plan. For United, losing this game is unthinkable, but do they have enough desire in the team to do it? On paper, it would seem so. However, the big name players need to turn up and stop looking at themselves in the mirror. Rashford is by far their best weapon, and if Pogba and Martial get it together on the day, they’ll surely triumph.

Liverpool’s rock and roll football will need to be on song on Sunday if they want to stay on top. They certainly have the firepower to beat Man U at home, but you can’t help feeling that they suffer a misfire every now and again. Mo Salah, probably their best player, could expose the weakness in Manchester’s defence if he can just stop looking for penalties all the time. Nevertheless, the match has got to be a defining moment for either team.

Leicester v Crystal Palace – Sat 23rd Kick off @ 1730hrs

Claude Puel’s men have let their manager down recently and should stay off social media, and concentrate on playing football instead. You have to sympathise with the club because of the tragedy of the owner’s helicopter crash. It must have affected them badly. Last time out at Wembley against Spurs, Vardy missed a vital penalty in the sixtieth minute that could have changed the game. However, there were a couple of positives that will cheer up the foxes. Tieleman made a good debut, and the team made plenty of chances throughout the game.

Meanwhile, back at the palace, the Eagles are still struggling to stay out of the relegation battle. They are going to need a big effort away from home at the King Power Stadium on Saturday. Roy Hodgson will be relying on another stellar performance from captain Luka Milivojevic, who was nominated man of the match against Doncaster by the fans. If there was ever a time for Christian Benteke to repay the club for having faith in him, it’s now.

Burnley v Spurs – Sat 23rd Kick Off @ 1230hrs

Sean Dyche is always the realist but after the performance against Brighton, he should be able to afford himself some optimism. Now off the bottom of the table, the Clarets need to assert themselves at home. Although Burnley got off to an iffy start at the beginning of the season, they are now showing the fruits of perseverance. The change in goal keeper in favour of Tom Heaton has made a significant difference, too. However, Spurs are a step up from Brighton.

Like Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur are desperate to be league champions, and the last time they managed it was in 1961. Providing the Spurs don’t suffer an end of season collapse again, they have an outside chance of being champions. It could happen. The reported early return from an ankle injury of Harry Kane for the game at Turf Moor should raise the Spurs fans’ spirits. Mauricio Pochettino’s team selection is going to be interesting too because Heung-Min Son played unbelievably well at Wembley against Borussia Dortmund. This game could go either way.

Arsenal v Southampton – Sun 24th Kick Off @ 1405hrs

Arsenal have got to make something of this season, and everybody knows it. The Gunners are expected to win this Sunday, but there will be some nerves on show if they don’t score early on. Like Highbury, the Emirates is a good place to read a book. The fans are too busy biting their fingernails to sing, and in some cases, to watch. On paper, they have the credentials of a top flight club, but in reality, their performances have been a bit of a Hobson’s choice. Arsenal need Ozil, but he is permanently sidelined with illness or missing. Something has to change.

Southampton are in a bit of trouble down at the bottom of the table. Third from bottom on 24 points isn’t where most pundits expected them to be. Most of the supporters would like to think there are winnable games left, but based on their recent form, faith in the Saints is starting to wane. If they survive at the Emirates on Sunday, then overcome Fulham next, and can summon up the spirit of the 1976 FA cup winning side, they have a chance to beat Man United. All in all, it’s going to be a very tall order indeed, and Ralph Hasenhuttl needs to light a bonfire under some of the temperamental players he has been lumbered with.
